The Porch is a writers' group based in Denton, Texas. When not critiquing each other's work, these artists bring literature to the public by combining a reading series with live dj's. Does it sound familiar? It shouldn't. The Porch's reading series is held as casually as possible in area bars with musicians playing between readers. Nothing is set to rhythm, irreverence is welcome, and drinking is mandatory. Formed as a response to the less-than-helpful writing community offered by the local university, the members of The Porch have decided to take their operation to the next level and begin their own publication. By drawing assistance from such groups as Denton Cohesion, freelance scholars, and, of course, Black Marmot, Harlin Anderson and his Porchers are wrestling with the problems of a fledgling publication. Their efforts make a good story, which means ... you guessed it: we've donned our capes and dug ourselves in.

The frame displayed above shows veteran bookmaker Al Brilliant, founder of Unicorn Press, disseminating wisdom to those Porchers who trekked to College Station, Texas to hear him speak.
